Having a chiseled jawline is often associated with attractiveness and confidence. It can help enhance your facial features and give you a more defined and sculpted appearance. While genetics plays a role in determining your jawline, there are several exercises and lifestyle changes you can incorporate to enhance and sharpen your jawline. Here are some tips on how to get a chiseled jawline. They aren’t give in any particular order and trying them all out should yield the best results.
1. Facial Exercises
Facial exercises can help strengthen the muscles in your face and promote a more defined jawline. There are many exercises you can perform and we feel like it’s best if you watched a video presentation for those.
2. Maintain a Healthy Diet and Chewing Hard Foods
Eating a well-balanced diet can contribute to overall weight loss, which can help make your jawline more defined. Focus on consuming lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Avoid excessive intake of processed foods, sugary snacks, and beverages. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and healthy. You will have the most defined jawline if you’re able to maintain a body fat percentage between 8-12%.
It’s also important to eat whole foods and hard foods. While many of us are lazy to eat our fruits and vegetables, so much so, that we end up putting them into our blender and creating a green smoothie, it’s actually way better to eat all those ingredients raw. Firstly when we create a smoothie, we end up mixing things together which messes with the chemical makeup of all the ingredients and we lose many of the benefits that we could’ve enjoyed by having eaten them raw and one by one. But we also avoid chewing our food.
Our jaw is made up of jaw muscles that can become stronger the more food we chew so it’s important that we chew hard food. It’s also very important to chew properly, which means chewing our food between 20 to 40 times before swallowing. It may seem like it takes a long time to do. But it’s how our ancestors used to eat their food and if you look at old pictures you will see that the majority of people had a well defined jawline, precisely because of this reason. We also must be fully present when eating our food. This means eating, not talking, but also not watching something on your TV or your phone. Also it’s important to chew with a closed mouth for optimal results. A proper diet and mindful chewing not only improve health, mood, and complexion but also benefit the gut microbiome, preventing bloating.
3. Chewing Mastic Gum
Originating from Greece, Mastic Gum stands out as a unique chewing experience compared to typical store-bought gums. Its hardness presents a greater challenge, offering benefits beyond just satisfying your jawline muscles. Incorporating Mastic Gum into your routine can enhance both gut health and jaw strength. Simply chew a piece daily for 10 to 15 minutes to reap its rewards.
4. Practice Good Posture
Believe it or not, your posture can affect the appearance of your jawline. Slouching can make your chin appear less defined. Practice good posture by keeping your shoulders back, chin up, and spine straight. This not only improves your jawline but also promotes overall confidence and a healthier body.
One of the major drawbacks stems from poor neck posture, especially prevalent among those working desk jobs. This often leads to what’s dubbed the “nerd neck” posture, where the neck protrudes forward. To address this issue, focus on strengthening your neck muscles. Numerous exercises can help with this, such as:
- Neck Curls
- Neck Extensions
- Neck Obliques

5. Mewing
Popularized by the somewhat controversial doctor Mike Mew. Mewing is a technique were you practice proper tongue posture. People love to over complicate this, but it’s basically the practice of keeping your tongue on the roof of your mouth, keeping your mouth closed and breathing through your nose. If you struggle with this, it’s often a good idea to use mouth tape during the day as well as nasal strips. The former will prevent you from mouth breathing, while the latter will open up your nasal canal to allow you to breathe more fully and deeply through your nose.
Native Americans had devices that would prevent their babies and toddlers from mouth breathing, because they highly valued strong jawlines. They also practiced mewing without calling it that. In fact throughout most of human history humans instinctively knew what a proper tongue posture is. It’s only through the adoption of modern diets and the modern way of life that we lost this once common knowledge. If you want to get deeper into this subject we suggest reading the book “Nutrition and Physical Degeneration” by Weston A. Price.
6. Visit an Orthodontist
If you were a mouth breather as a child, or if you sucked too long on a pacifier you could have developed a recessed chin. It would have also negatively affected your teeth development. In such cases it’s best to visit an orthodontist as getting braces or a invisialign could greatly improve both your teeth and your jawline. This is the most expensive option and it works best if you’re very young, but it can also work for some adults, again unless you visit a professional you can’t know for sure. So in our opinion this is the first step you should take and all the other things should be supplementary.
While you cannot change your genetics, if you take these steps you are bound to make some progress. We wish you luck in your pursuit of the perfectly chiseled jawline.
